Carly has been creating a career in language and culture ever since she began weaving baskets at the age of ten. Carly is a member of North Fork Rancheria Band of Mono Indians on her father\u2019s side and a descendant of Dunlap Band of Mono Indians on her mother\u2019s side. She has a bachelor\u2019s degree in Anthropology with emphasis in Linguistic Studies from CSU Sonoma, and a Master\u2019s degree in Linguistics from University of Arizona through the Native American Languages Master\u2019s Program (NAMA). Upon graduating, Carly made a point to attend as much language revitalization training as possible to gain teaching methods, resources, and professional connections to assist in sustaining her heritage language, Western Mono. Currently, Carly is the Executive Director for the Advocates for Indigenous California Language Survival (AICLS) and is responsible for the implementation of the Advocates\u2019 programs, vision, and mission to support the revitalization of languages Indigenous to California. She also is a co-convener for the Collaborative Language Institute (CoLang) and sits on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for California Traditional Arts.&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Cambria, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size ); I am a Karuk, Yurok, Paiute, and Pittriver woman and mother of three living in rural Humboldt County at the village of&nbsp;<b>taxasufk\u00e1ra.&nbsp;<\/b> I have been learning the Karuk language for about 10 year in the Master Apprenticeship program of AICLS under Julian Lang and now the Family Language program. I hope to bring my experiences in both programs to my work as a mentor to the Northern California teams. I am a therapist (LCSW) and I fully believe that language work plays a huge part in our collective healing from historical trauma as Native Peoples. I am happy to play whatever role I can to help support Indigenous language revitalization. The colonization years have convinced many this is not important or key to cultural revolution and revitalization; but that is not what I believe. I will always support the language so that anyone on their mental health and healing journey can step on this path towards cultural, spiritual, and mental healing.
